Islands

The Different Islands of Raft

In Raft, islands are your primary source of growth, categorized mainly by their size and the threats they host. Basic Islands are the most frequent; they are peaceful hubs where you can quickly gather wood, fruit, and scrap from the surrounding reefs without worrying about land predators.

As you progress through the story, you will unlock different Biome Islands that change the environment of these large islands. Depending on your current coordinates, you might encounter Evergreen islands filled with bears and pine trees, arid Desert islands home to Mud Hogs, or frozen Arctic landscapes. Each biome provides unique resources, such as wool, honey, or leather, which are essential for advanced crafting.

Finally, there are Story Islands and Rare Landmarks. Story islands are massive, unique locations like the sunken Radio Tower or the domed city of Tangaroa that drive the narrative forward. While exploring, you might also stumble upon the ultra-rare Shipwreck or Plane Crash islands; these easter-egg locations appear randomly and reward you with unique cosmetic items like the Captain's Hat.

Biome Islands
Evergreen Biome Home to the massive Balboa Island, these islands feature pine and birch trees and are guarded by Bears. You can also find Bee Swarms here for honey production.
Desert Biome Centered around Caravan Town, these arid islands are inhabited by Mudhogs and provide unique desert flora like Agave and Yucca.
Arctic Biome Encountered near Temperance, these frozen lands are surrounded by icebergs and patrolled by Polar Bears. They are largely barren of underwater resources but offer snowmobiles for faster traversal.

Rare/Special Islands
Shipwreck Island Recognizable by a large "HELP" flag and a stranded boat; it contains a unique Pilot Hat.
Plane Crash Island Recognizable by a large "HELP" flag and a stranded boat; it contains a unique Pilot Hat.

Basic Islands
Small Tropical Islands Frequent, easy to loot, and contain basic resources like palm trees, mangoes, and watermelons. They are safe from land enemies, though the shark remains a threat in the surrounding reefs.
Large Tropical Islands These appear as green dots on your Receiver once you have one. They host dangerous wildlife like Screechers and Warthogs, but offer rare livestock (Goats, Llamas, Cluckers) and Trading Posts.

Story Islands
Radio Tower The first story location; a half-sunken facility.
Vasagatan A massive, abandoned cruise ship.
Tangaroa A futuristic domed city.
